Introduction to the Department

The College started its journey back in 1965 as SreeChaitanya College of Commerce, as an evening college affiliated to theUniversity of Calcutta, primarily to cater the needs of employed youth of thelocal semi-urban community. Later, the college become a morning college afterestablishing its own campus. During that time, the department offered‘commerce’ education starting from Higher Secondary level to Under Graduatelevel. Gradually, the College gained reputation in academic field throughoffering quality education in the field of commerce, the students secured ranksin University examinations several times and many well placed in jobsparticularly in W.B. Audit & Accounts Services.  In later years, the Higher Secondary levelgot removed at college level.  In 2008,the affiliation got changed to West Bengal State University

Vision : Considering the contemporarydevelopments in socio-economic scenario of the world and the resulting rampantunemployment of the youth, the main focus of the Department of Commerce is toprovide impetus to the students in educational activities that promotelivelihood of the students and helping them achieve leadership qualities,through round-the-year skill enhancement programmes in continuance with regularacademic curriculum.

Mission : We project the under-mentionedagenda that can practically be implemented by the departmental staff, takingthe help of all the distinguished patrons established in their respectivefields and willing to share their valuable knowledge, experience and advice tous and to our students.
